STOR is a framework for finding pre-recognition signals in concentrated supply chains. Every contested input has four roles: an Owner who controls supply, a Toll Collector who extracts value from the flow, a Renter who depends on the input, and a Shaper who controls whether the flow exists at all. The stress that hits the Renter's filings has usually shown up in the Owner's earnings calls one to three quarters earlier, and that gap is the pre-recognition window.

About the STOR Framework

STOR stands for Shaper, Toll Collector, Owner, Renter, the four roles around any contested supply chain input. The framework starts from the observation that supply stress is asymmetrically disclosed. An Owner whose product is in short supply talks about allocation, lead times, pricing power, and capacity in their earnings calls long before that stress hits the cost line of the Renter who depends on it. The gap between Owner stress and Renter recognition is where the trade lives, and STOR is built to find it.

The framework runs in two stages. The first is contestedness: does this input qualify for full analysis, judged on six criteria covering supply concentration, substitutability, strategic significance, policy pressure, supply elasticity, and competing demand. The second is actor mapping and signal reading: identify the specific public companies sitting in each role, pull their disclosures, and look for the language of stress on the Owner side that has not yet appeared on the Renter side.

Shapers sit outside the firm layer. They are the governments, regulators, multilateral bodies, and transit authorities that control whether the flow exists at all. Their pre-recognition signal is not an earnings call but a proposed rule, a pending export ban, a sunset date, or a comment period. STOR tracks them through their named policy levers and current regulatory status.

The framework is most useful for inputs where supply is concentrated, substitutes are weak, and recognition is asymmetric. It is least useful for commodities with deep transparent markets where prices already encode the signal.
